Downham House is fully registered Children's Home operating within the Children's Homes Regulations 2015. We offer a Residential Short Break Service to young people aged between 8 and 18 who have a severe learning disability and other difficulties. 

At Downham House we are committed to providing positive opportunities to young people while giving families a break from caring.  The safe care of the young people is our priority and we are looking for a person to join our current staff team at this time to provide oversight at night in the form of a waking night shift.

You will provide direct support to children and young people who have a severe learning disability receiving an overnight short break in a registered children's home. The role will include day to day care provision, enabling activities and general assistance with tasks and needs. There is an element of practical home-based tasks in addition to this.

The role includes being a link keyworker for a specific young person, overseeing their care package with the day workers, liaising with other agencies when appropriate and engaging in the preparation of associated plans.   

The role requires good planning and decision making as well as strong team working ability and resilience. You will be accountable to the management team within the home. You will have initiative and the ability to work alone or in small groups. You will understand the importance of reliability and responsibility when working in a small team.

You will have or be willing to work towards a Diploma Level 3 in Children and Young People in the Workforce or the nationally recognised equivalent or you will be willing to work towards this in a specified timescale. 

You will be able to work set shifts patterns within a rota that operates across a four week rolling period, these include weekend shifts, as well as school holidays. You will understand the dynamics of working in a small team and you will understand the importance of meeting the needs of children and will work flexibly, when required, to achieve this. 

You will have relevant and current experience of working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and disabilities including autism and associated spectrum conditions.

This position is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
