LOCATION: Sowton, Exeter

JOB TITLE: Skills Officer in Civil Engineering

SALARY: Starting at GBP21,534 to GBP25,165 per annum, plus GBP2000 pa market pay supplement. For the right candidate this post may attract a golden hello and retention payment.

WORKING HOURS: Full time 37 hours per week

THE COMPANY: Our client is a large, thriving and growing tertiary college which places teaching, learning and student success as their top priority. They enjoy an excellent regional reputation. The College was judged as outstanding by Ofsted in a pilot "no notice" inspection in 2012, and again in a full inspection in 2014. They were awarded the Times Educational Supplement 'Outstanding Provider of the Year in 2012 and BTEC College of the Year in 2014.

They have high expectations of their students and staff and each year their combined efforts result in excellent exam grades, outstanding training successes and brilliant music, art, sports and community achievements. They welcome students of all ages and abilities and their tutorial and learner support programmes are designed to meet their needs, challenging them to reach their full potential.
The college provides tertiary education for around 10,000 - 12,000 students.

The college was established in 1970 as the first tertiary college in the UK, bringing together the former grammar schools' sixth forms and Technical College.

They are currently looking to recruit a Skills Officer in Civil Engineering to work in their Construction Facility based in Sowton, Exeter.

THE ROLE: This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for the Civil Engineering industry to join a dedicated college in Sowton, Exeter. You will join an established team of Assessors and support level 2 and 3 apprentices within the Construction Faculty. The role focuses on assessing and reviewing learners' progress within the workplace and ensuring positive partnerships with employers to maximise the potential of their trainees.

Key Responsibilities of the Skills Officer to include:-
Provide specialist advice to learners and organisations regarding vocational and work based qualifications, delivery and progression options
Carry out learner assessment in the workplace
Track and assess key skills
Examine candidates' portfolios of evidence
Record candidates' progress
Arrange and provide learning support as required
Sign off awards when all the requirements have been met.

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal Skills Officer will be experienced and qualified to level 4 or above in Civil Engineering. You will have trade qualifications and experience at level 3 alongside the drive and passion to deliver outstanding support to learners and employers. A high degree of people, administration and organisational skills are essential. A qualification in assessing is desirable.

Key skills/experience essential for Skills Officer role:
A minimum of 4 years' experience the Civil Engineering industry
A level 4 qualification or above in Civil Engineering
Full UK driving licence and access to own transport
Willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check
