Software Engineer (Ref. No: P57138)

GBP33,943 up to GBP38,183 on Grade F, depending on qualifications and experience

The College wishes to recruit a Software Engineer to support the work of Prof Pierre Friedlingstein. This post is available immediately for 18 months. The post will provide programming and modelling skills to support research in the area of land surface and climate change modelling to the University Climate Dynamics and Earth System Science research teams.

The post will include developing and supporting the use of JULES, the UK community global land surface model. The successful applicant will support the climate research teams in key aspects of the land surface modelling, improving the overall technical and scientific performance of the JULES land surface models, including code portability, scalability, data management and analysis, as well as the associated workflow infrastructure. The University climate research group uses and develops world-leading numerical models of the land surface, as part of Global Climate models. It is expected that the post holder will contribute to innovative numerical experiments, model intercomparison studies, and will benefit from co-authorship of peer-reviewed papers.

Applicants will possess a relevant university degree qualification and be able to demonstrate sufficient work experience in programmes or software development and data handling in a scientific environment.
