Purchasing Manager £30,000 - £35,000, possible negotiation Exeter My Client is looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager / Procurement / Senior Buying professional to join this team of 5, as a Commodity Manager. You’ll be responsible for managing a range of commodities from European suppliers, managing the relationships appropriately, managing pricing and resolving requests for quotations. This role will involve regular overseas travel as you will operate on a global level, at all levels of the business, and be expected to manage the priorities of your area to meet and exceed the requirements of your customers, both internal and external. Key Responsibilities in your role as Purchasing Manager: The role is responsible for but not limited to, the following: To contribute to determining Company policy, strategy, goals, critical success factors to achieve, and to communicate and promote Company policy, strategy, goals and plans within the vendor base. Identify opportunities for the commercially sound developments of the Company. Manage all commercial aspects of the vendor relationship. Negotiation and agreement of prices and commercial / contractual terms. Reporting on vendor performance as required. Agree targets and objectives with the Group Purchasing Manager, and ensure that any commitments made are met in full. Ensure that targets are monitored, and all requested reports are provided on time. This is also the case in regards to preparation of price forecasting, and other data, required by stakeholders within the business. Develop sourcing leverage via a reduced number of suppliers, to minimise the Company’s spend on materials, services and components, conducive with maintaining adequate quality standards and delivery performance. To maximise on supplier capabilities to determine alternative materials, component designs, tooling, quality standards and delivery packaging where appropriate. Support lead-time and MOQ reduction projects to bring logistically difficult materials or components within inventory targets. Monitor the market place and forward picture of base material so effective strategies can be employed to maximise any benefits (or minimise any risks) for the company. Closely monitor the financial stability of supplying companies and implement actions to resource where continuity of supply seems vulnerable. Record and manage external owned tooling, including conditions and recommendations for replacement/refurbishment from within the capital expenditure budget. To extend the concept of supplier quality assurance to enable materials and components to be delivered in accordance with the requirements of the business. Communicate the philosophy of ownership and responsibility at source to the vendor base. Monitor performance of a portfolio of vendors and take appropriate actions to address any performance failures. Actively participate in new product development teams to influence the design in the use of materials and which will give lowest cost, best quality within shortest time. Maintain standards, professionalism and team working with emphasis on internal customer satisfaction and profit orientation. Adhere to all company rules and guidelines and compliance with all legal requirements. Any other task deemed appropriate by the Group Purchasing Manager and within the capabilities of the post holder. We are looking for a Purchasing Manager or Senior Buyer with: Experience in a senior purchasing role who ideally has a clear understanding of metal working, hydraulics or electronics – although other backgrounds will be considered as long as the experience is gained from within a production environment. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, excellent negotiation skills, good numeracy and IT skills, expertise in MS office applications and MCIPS – and who is flexible, resilient, decisive and who works with a high level of attention to detail.
