Haldons are looking for a qualified RICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor to join our busy team based at our Head Office in Torquay working across Residential, Healthcare, Education and Industrial Sectors. We will accept applicants ranging from recently qualified through to seasoned professionals. Salary is negotiable, depending on experience. Location: (Head Office) Torquay Main purpose of job and its primary objectives: To undertake a full range of professional quantity surveying duties as directed by the Director or others team members within the business, in a professional and conscientious manner to the required standard and quality within given timescales. Project involvement from inception to completion. Post contract experience essential. Client facing role. Main duties: - advising on procurement strategies for clients and external architects/Project Managers; - preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities and schedules of works with external architects, clients and in-house Building Surveyors; - Understanding of Employers Agent role - Project management - maintain commercial awareness of tender price fluctuations and maintain cost database - undertaking costs analysis for repair and maintenance project work; - assisting in establishing a client's requirements and assisting with feasibility studies; - performing risk and value management and life cycle cost analysis; - identify, analyse and develop responses to client commercial risks; - preparing and analysing tender costs; - providing advice on contractual claims; - analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports; - valuing construction work and issuing valuation certificates and preparing final accounts; - Checking on construction quality and compliance: - maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use; - understanding the implications of health and safety regulations. Supervisory and managerial responsibilities: Responsible for the management of own projects from inception to completion ensuring work is completed within fee structures and to the necessary quality standards. This is a development role and part of the job will be to establish and maintain a network of clients and commercial contacts throughout the Devon and Cornwall area. Knowledge and skills required: - Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - Accurate measurement of construction projects and preparation of BoQ and schedules. - Good standard of software tools i.e., Excel spreadsheets, Project, Powerpoint, RIPAC (or similar) - Good knowledge of construction techniques and methodology. - Detailed knowledge of building contracts and their appropriate use. - To undertake an agreed minimum level of continuing professional development (CPD) as agreed with the Director. Personal Skills: - Confident and articulate with an eye for detail. - An individual who is a self-starter and enjoys a challenge. - Good communication and inter-personal skills - Be able to work within a team and ability to manage in house teams set up for specific projects. - Good networker who enjoys meeting people and developing a network of contacts. - Own mode of transport with full driving license is essential Other responsibilities: To be able to manage in house teams and project fee scales. Participate in networking events and conferences. Responsible for the management of his/her own diary and management of workloads. Special working conditions: Modern approach to flexible working. Requirement to work additional hours to ensure the completion of works to tight deadlines from time to time. Some level of home working is allowable where appropriate.
