Head of Business Intelligence Buckfastleigh, Devon c£55,000 DOE About Riverford We’re mad about organic veg. It’s at the core of everything we do. We love to grow it, pack it into boxes and deliver it to customers’ doorsteps around the UK. This takes a lot of brilliant people, with a range of skills and knowledge. Riverford began in 1986, with a few acres of veg, a wheelbarrow and a beaten up 2CV for deliveries. We’ve grown into a successful e-commerce business, with four farms, three packhouses, a fleet of vans and drivers, a wholesalers, butchery, organic restaurant and pub. We employ people across many areas including IT, Logistics, Sales, HR, Finance and Marketing (and more besides). Our culture and values set us apart from other businesses. Riverford is a friendly, informal place to work, with a passionate, entrepreneurial spirit. We’re committed to providing a fair deal for growers, customers and staff. What you’ll be doing Every part of our company is enabled through technology and data intelligence; how we harvest, the products we develop, the strategy that we take. We are extraordinarily passionate about our products, the ethics we demand of ourselves in their supply and the attention to detail we take in their delivery. These are all enabled though our intelligent use of data. You will lead from the front as a technical authority, motivator and manager of a team tasked with delivering and defining the roadmap for a new chapter of business intelligence here at Riverford. You will capture, architect and deliver analysis to enable Riverford to deliver ever improving products and experiences to our customers. It will be your responsibility to define a roadmap resulting in a best-of-breed business intelligence function, facilitating the company in making strategic decisions through robust data and insight. Your management style will be lightweight, transparent and continuous improvement will be at its core. You’ll be exceptionally data-driven, wanting to experiment to ratify and optimise results and identify new opportunities. Most of all, you will want to work with like-minded and highly capable people to deliver fantastic ethical and delicious products steered by your team’s insight. Skills & experience We are less concerned about specifics and decades of experience than we are about capability, ambition and cultural fit. If there is something on our list which is out of your comfort zone, that’s fine, but you’ll be expected to pick it up and run with it should you join us That said, here are our ideal skills for this role: - Technical team management – BI requires exceptional team competency - Data architecture – From inception to delivery ensuring data provenance - Data management – Definition of appropriate policies for data lifecycle - ETL – Extracting, transforming and consolidating data, company-wide - Analysis – Results should answer questions not simply expose data - Analytics – Discovery and interpretation of patterns within data - Prioritisation – Balancing multiple streams of ongoing deliverables - Presentation – Delivering insight clearly and confidently up to the board - Modelling – Conceptual, logical and physical data models and prediction - Consulting – BI as a two-way strategic service to business stakeholders - Reporting – Defining operational and strategic reporting and automation - AI – Machine learning as a tool for complex and automated analysis - SQL – Deep understanding and application of advanced querying - Tooling – Identifying and procuring best-of-breed systems and tools - Best practice – Query reviews, result testing, data fuzzing and proofs - Agile / Scrum / Kanban – Work just-in-time to release value quickly Personal qualities You will have either a solid degree in a STEM subject or a similar capability through experience. You’ll be very capable of analysing complex scenarios and large amounts of data and communicating conclusions to both technical and non-technical people concisely. You are likely to have significant experience in business intelligence, analytics or quantitative analysis, working within and leading teams, focused around commerce, forecasting etc. You’re probably involved in the wider business intelligence ecosystem through blogs, talks and conferences. You will have worked with large-scale e-commerce systems and medium-large scale integrated organisations before, delivering insight and intelligence. You will have a history of identifying opportunity for data capture and analysis then executing on those opportunities to deliver real business. Benefits Riverford is a beautiful place to work, with lots of great people – and other benefits too. We offer 31 days’ holiday (including bank holidays), a generous company pension scheme and an annual profit share. We love food and hope you do too, so we give staff 25% off everything we sell on our website; heavily discounted organic breakfasts and lunches in the staff canteen; and free organic fruit and veg. There are also many social events for staff, with two big parties a year. To apply for the role of Head of Business Intelligence, please apply via the button shown.
