Key tasks and deliverables:

The key tasks for temporary replacement will be to maintain the Naval Base radiation protection audit and surveillance assurance function including writing of audit reports & deliver HP NERO cell training.

Experience Required:

The purpose of the HPP post is to formulate radiological protection policy and to support the RPA in the provision of advice on radiological protection and radioactive waste management to the Naval Base Board Directors, Naval Base Commander (Devonport) and the Naval Base Operating Centre (NBOC).

The following tasks are undertaken to achieve this:

Assist in the provision of policy and advice to all Naval Base authorities and other departments on the requirements for radiological protection within their areas of responsibility.

Assist in the provision of radiological risk assessments and advice on new facilities at Devonport.

As part of the NBRSD RPICG to provide assurance oversight of operations by carrying out a professional radiation protection/radioactive waste audit and inspection function for areas under the responsibility of the Naval Base Commander.

Provide input into the preparation and maintenance of the Naval Base Radiation Protection Policy, Rules, and Guidance, NAEA documentation and advice for other departments RPSOs.

Act as a member of committees as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the post - including the provision of RP and RW advice to the Management Safety Committee (MSC), Site Event Reporting Committee (SERC) and Nuclear Engineering Support Committee (NESC) as appropriate.

Be a member of the Duty Health Physics Officer watch bill and coordinate its production.

Act as cell sponsor for the HP Cell & NEMT.

Professional/External Qualifications:

Essential - Graduate in scientific subject, Chartered Radiation Protection Professional (CRadP)

Additional qualifications required for this role:

Must have knowledge and experience of radiological protection policies, standards and processes in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme.
