Action East Devon is the leading local charity working with the people, communities and organisations of East Devon to create the services and support they need to live happier and healthier lives. The charity provides a range of support, recovery and wellbeing opportunities for vulnerable people and their carers and are currently working with older people, young people with poor mental health and their parents/carers, people with learning disabilities and carers through the following services: Devon Carers, Counselling for Carers, Branching Out, the Project, Axminster Remembers, Forget me Not, Axe Valley Visiting Scheme.

We are working with Action East Devon to recruit a Finance Manager who will contribute to the sound management of the organisation by providing specialist skills in accounts, payroll, pensions and financial reporting. You will report to the Chief Executive and Board of Directors and work closely with the senior management team.  You will be responsible for the line management and supervision of the part time Finance Officer.

As  Finance Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring income and expenditure against restricted and general fund budgets
  • Preparing monthly management reports
  • Preparing financial reports for grant monitoring returns as required
  • Supporting project managers in ongoing monitoring
  • Assisting with budget preparation for funding applications
  • Preparing annual budgets
  • Preparing end of year reports and liaising with auditors
  • Supervising and monitoring invoicing, purchase ledger and data entry work carried out by the Finance Officer
  • Support CEO in developing new financial systems as required e.g. individual giving

You will also have:

  • Charity finance experience
  • Extensive experience of using Sage 50 Accounts/Microsoft Access
  • Confidence and competency in Excel
  • A good understanding of Charity SoRP and VAT
  •  A Professional Accounting Qualification eg.CIPFA, CIMA, AAT
