Head of Tor Bay Harbour Authority and Tor Bay Harbour Master

Salary between £53,639 and £57,066 pa plus access to local government pension scheme

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join Torbay Council and
oversee the delivery of a successful and well established municipal harbour.
Tor Bay Harbour is situated on the south coast of Devon and it sits within the English Riviera, which is a major holiday destination as well as a UNESCO Global Geopark. The harbour area occupies 16 square miles of open sea and has 22 miles of coastline. It includes three enclosed harbours and provides a sheltered anchorage for shipping. The Bay is also a venue for a range of maritime events, including national and international championships.

You will be responsible for the overall management, direction and leadership
of Tor Bay Harbour Authority and the statutory harbour of Tor Bay as
required by Torbay Council as the Harbour Authority. The enclosed harbours
of Brixham, Torquay and Paignton host fishing, leisure and small commercial vessels, including seasonal passenger craft. Brixham is a significant fishing port and cruise ship passengers can land by tender in Torquay. Quays, piers and breakwaters are located around all three harbours, together with a range of assets that make up the relevant land-based harbour estates. The service area also includes all aspects of beach management.

You will have experience of management in ports and harbours at a senior
level, knowledge of legislation relevant to ports and harbours, an appropriate
marine related qualification (ideally a Master Mariner or equivalent) along with the ability to lead, motivate and develop staff. The ability to act as a stand-by pilot would be desirable but not essential.
